Setting aside how effective EOs may be at governing the intelligence community, I agree the 2nd trigger to ban agencies from using commercial spyware that pose “significant risks of improper use(s)…or enable human rights abuses” sounds great, but wouldn’t this be all of them?

AFAIK, only now defunct Ace-Labs, a subsidiary of Verint/Cognyte had some knowledge of demo’s and sales of its spyware through Verint Zoetermeer. AFAIK, this is the only spyware that could be operated by nation states for sale through the Netherlands?

As much as I hate TikTok and would not cry too hard if it were vaporized, nobody's yet to show me any actual evidence that it's Chinese government spyware.
Or that... even if it *is*, that they're able to do anything useful with it other than target better ads at me.

Since Atom was sunset, I was looking for a good alternative. Ran across VSCodium, basically VSCode without the spyware and nasty stuff. Streamlined, feature rich code editor.
Plus cyberpunk theme

Meta has destroyed both FB and IG. Just absolute trash platforms. No more advertising dollars going there. Snapchat is pretty much dead. Advertising on Snapchat is a waste of money. TikTok is spyware, but effective. Twitter, well, it was the last effective platform. No more. /x

20/ The #SpywareEO's focus is on curbing *commercial* spyware proliferation.
Whether proliferators are US-based, or foreign registered companies.
Imp. to recognize that it isn't crafted to address some key issues, like how the US gov uses, say, it's own spyware.

21/ The #SpywareEO seems to be the product of unexpected interests aligning on spyware proliferation, which is causing harm all over.
So, progress.
But such alignments always fade as you approach transparency & accountability on domestic surveillance.
So, much work to be done.
