Malta now has specialised equipment for fast processing of Covid-19 testsMalta is one of the first countries in Europe which will start using a specialised machine to process Covid-19 tests, announced Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne.

Dr Fearne was on a visit to the Pathology Department at Mater Dei, where they were making the final preparations before this robotic machine gets up and running in the coming hours.

He explained that this specialised machine means that Mater Dei can carry out 800 test per day, and will also reduce the processing time of the test to a matter of minutes so that results will be available the same day the test is taken.

Dr Fearne went on to say that “the country had access to this advanced equipment because the Government took prompt proactive action,” adding that it is one of a number of measures being taken to control the wave of infection.

“The more we test at this early stage, the more we are able to give care to patients who test positive for the virus and at the same time isolate them immediately to stop this virus from spreading in our country,” stressed the Minister.

He thanked all workers in the field of health for their dedicated work.
